Big Moves Ahead!

Hey Detroit Family 👋🏾 You haven’t heard from us in a while because we’ve been extra busy.
Let us explain.
When we embarked on this journey to unite the city’s young Black professionals, we faced a task that inevitably brought the growing pains of a budding professional’s life into the Board Room of a green nonprofit. Yet, over the past seven years Black Young Professionals of Metro Detroit has been blessed to organize over 170 events in the metro area, galvanizing and facilitating camaraderie in the Black community. We’ve been honored to see our vision come to fruition with thousands finding a sense of belonging, new friendships, new relationships, and many making the choice to stay in Metro Detroit because of our efforts.
Since change is constant and guaranteed, we have to be flexible overtime to best serve you. Today we’ve arrived at a critical inflection point that demands we pivot in favor of the greater good. It’s time to retool our organization after seven years, for the new normal. BYP was built with Generation X traditionalism and Millennial gusto, but it’s time to rise to the challenge of converging and inspiring the newest generations of young Detroiters! The post-COVID, Work-From-Home, Detroit is Back, Gen Z, non-binary future is knocking at the door.

As of October 10, 2022 BYP is taking a pause to reorganize a few things. While we do this, events and regular newsletters will stop, and we’ll vacate current memberships. However, as we continue to honor the vision of our unified community, we may periodically send out information on important community events, and post to social media.
As a volunteer-powered non-profit organization every dollar you’ve donated or paid in dues has been combined with our staff’s sweat equity and time to ignite the mission to make a brighter Detroit for YOU. Your funds will still prove invaluable during our retooling period to keep the lights on, to serve you, and greater metro Detroit. While we figure things out for the future, you can still support us and/or reach out with opportunities, partnership ideas, or questions.
The team at Black Young Professionals wouldn’t exist without you. Your event attendance over these past several years has been amazing, and even during COVID we kept it humming digitally. The intense determination of our community proves that Detroit is for Doers and Detroit Gets It Done. Every time we touched a life it was because of your support. Thank you!
