On August 22nd, 2019 Black Young Professionals of Metro Detroit answered our membership’s call for another major open-house social event. This time with a bit of fun activity at its core, we held our official summer networking mixer entitled Mix & Fowl at The Fowling Warehouse in Hamtramck, MI. Black Young Professionals’ networking mixers focus on cultivating an intentional space for networking socially among like-minded professionals of African decent. To do this, we bring our own special sauce to the table to alleviate anxiety and help everyone feel welcomed, included, and to meet new people.

What is “Fowling” you ask? Why it’s simply a new sport game that blends football and bowling together into one. Check out our Facebook video post explaining the game!

This summer’s event was free and open to both members and followers, however registration was mandatory. Registered guests enjoyed many cool perks for free! Including a catered appetizer bar by Events of Excellence Catering, unlimited soft drinks, exclusive Fowling lanes, and all-night venue access even after the event was over! The evening consisted of check-in, mingling, eating, and networking throughout the night from 6 PM until 9 PM. We also had exclusive lanes for our guests from 7 PM until 9 PM. Throughout the time the exclusive lanes were open, all that could be heard was laughing, cheering, and shouts of joy and anguish as people played their hearts out!

We would like to send a special thanks to Events of Excellence for the awesome food everyone loved. This local, Black-owned catering company provided us with top notch service for this event. We recommend you consider their full suite of services for your next event, big or small.

Black Young Professionals of Metro Detroit’s mission is to unify and edify young professionals through various means including personal development, community service, and social events. This networking mixer another successful example of our work to stitch together the various silos in the Metro Detroit community of young Black professionals.
