BYP Detroit was over half of the volunteer force supporting the #JusticeForFlint benefit concert this past weekend. Presented by Blackout for Human Rights, the event was setup to raise $100,000 for the Flint water crisis. It gave a voice to the community of Flint, with many performances and words given by local Flint residents, artists, and community leaders. Additionally, the event sought to treat Flint residents like VIPs for a day and give them front row access for FREE.
BYP Detroit made a trip up to Flint to support the event through volunteerism. Members carried out VIP Check-in, Bag search for Security, acted as Ushers for seating in VIP and General Admission areas, performed Production & Artist Receiving/Handling, and acted as Guest Greeters. While there many members enjoyed networking with other local young professionals, activists, and informed citizens.
The event was a tremendous success. Although admission was free, the event’s supporters donated over $145,000.
Our special thanks goes to BYP member Christa Chambers-Price for extending us an invite to support this cause.
